Ericka Beckman | Vivienne Dick | Seamus Harahan (with Cashier No.9 and BEW)
11 December 2014 – 16 January 2015
Opening: 11 December, 6-9pm
Considering the overlapping tensions inherent within music culture and contemporary art practice, ‘NOISE FEST’ brings together the work of Ericka Beckman, Vivienne Dick, and Seamus Harahan. Collectively harnessing a vocabulary and sensibility that oscillates and slips between clear categories of distinction, the works incorporate the disparate tropes of experimental filmmaking with the aesthetic rhetoric of pseudo music documentary and video.
Taking its name from an influential festival of No Wave performances in 1981 at New York based arts organisation White Columns, the exhibition is punctuated with texts by Kim Gordon and Dan Graham, in addition to the Brian Eno produced LP ‘No New York‘, (1978).
Framed by and paying homage to the New York based underground movement No Wave, ‘NOISE FEST’ reflects on a time when the two distinct fields were reciprocally influenced and encouraged by one another.
