Design and build your very own sound experiences in this unique collaborative event run in conjunction with Belfast-based sound art collective, Tone Burst. Using the very latest technology, you’ll be free to explore your creative ideas, with help from the team as required. All materials and equipment will be provided and no technical experience is needed, although a passion for sound and music-making is, of course, essential! To get the most from this workshop, participants should ideally attend all four days. Supported by Synthux Academy, this event will give you the run-down on a range of cutting-edge digital fabrication technologies, including 3D printers and laser-cutting machines. Come along and see what sounds emerge!

This 3-hour beginners SDIWO* in-person workshop connects the themes of art, music, technology and power through a mix of theory and practice.
Participants will use small microcontrollers to produce and manipulate 8-bit audio. The topics of sound creation, modulation and manipulation, and how we power our technologies are covered in practical exercises. Hacking is encouraged. With guidance, participants will decide on the functionality of their synth and select sensors for interaction.
Hardware will be powered using e-waste. The batteries that will drive the circuits are sourced from disposable e-cigarettes. This workshop encourages participants to consider the materials and resources used in art practices in terms of the impact created on the audience and environment.*SDIWO = synthesiser do it with others

<kat no.56>
Dulcidrone with Lauren Pierce, Andrew Bushe, Trond Jervell, Saul Rayson, Colin Campbell, Eleanor McKenna & Cooper.
A dewy morn with breath all incense,
Reflections in ripples and white caps immense.
Sand-strewn caverns, cool and deep
Autumn’s fire burns slowly upon a wooded steep.
Rocky faces change colour with every hour,
Patchwork fields and slopes of heathery flower.
Blue-green ridges like waves, high and hoary,
the sun sinks behind the peaks in a golden glory.
Steer a difficult course in sometimes treacherous water.
Constantly negotiate between the past and the demands of the modern world.
Strive to gain a place in this world and fear breaking faith with the old one.
Earth.
